To export your resume to PDF in Workplacea, open the finished document in the editor, select Export PDF, review the template, paper size, ATS checks, and plan details, and choose Download. Workplacea's secure renderer creates a selectable-text file that reflects the structured preview you checked before exporting.
When you export your resume to PDF for the first time, Workplacea includes one clean, watermark-free PDF with the free plan. Standard, Meridian, and Carbon are the free core templates. You may preview all 12 layouts with your real content; Pro and Career Sprint unlock clean exports from every premium template and unlimited clean PDF exports.
Export your resume to PDF step by step
Use this short preflight before starting the download:
- Open the resume in the Workplacea editor.
- Switch to Preview and scan the entire document from the name at the top to the last education, skill, or project entry.
- Check the page count and any section that lands near a page break.
- Select Export PDF in the editor toolbar.
- Review the export summary: selected template, Letter or A4 paper size, current score, and any high-priority fixes.
- If this is your first free clean export, use Standard, Meridian, or Carbon. If you have Pro or Career Sprint, you can export any of the 12 templates.
- Select Download my free PDF or Export clean PDF, depending on your plan.
- Keep the tab open while the secure renderer finishes the document.
- Open the downloaded file and save or rename it with a professional filename if needed.
The export review is intentional. It gives you one final chance to catch a paper-size choice, an avoidable score issue, or a premium-template selection before the server creates the file.
What the free PDF includes
The first free clean export is not a demo document. It includes:
- No Workplacea watermark. There is no logo across the page and no product footer added to the resume.
- Selectable text. You can highlight, copy, and paste the words from the PDF. That gives applicant tracking systems a much better chance of reading the document than a flattened image would.
- Your complete content. The file contains the sections and wording shown in the preview rather than a truncated sample.
- A free core layout. Choose Standard, Meridian, or Carbon for the free export. Each prioritizes clear hierarchy and a readable document structure.
- The selected paper format. Workplacea supports A4 and Letter layout choices so you can match the convention expected in your market.
Free includes one clean PDF. If delivery is interrupted after the PDF is created, Workplacea allows a short retry of that exact resume rather than making a failed download cost the allowance twice. Additional clean exports require a paid plan.
Pro costs $12 per month and includes all premium templates plus unlimited clean exports. Career Sprint costs $39 for 90 days, includes the same template and export access, and does not renew automatically. The Workplacea free-plan guide explains the boundary in detail.
Why selectable text matters
A resume can look sharp on screen and still fail when an application system tries to read it. The fastest signal is whether the PDF contains real text. If every page behaves like a photograph, a parser may return nothing useful. If the text can be selected and copied, the document has the basic property required for extraction.
Selectable text does not guarantee that every ATS will interpret every section perfectly. Heading names, content order, unusual symbols, and overly elaborate columns can still cause problems. Workplacea's templates use a structured document model and clear visual hierarchy to reduce that risk. For the format trade-offs, read PDF or Word resume and Workplacea templates and ATS safety.
Preview the exact resume before saving
Do not treat export as the first time you inspect the full page. The preview is where you should verify:
- your name and contact details are complete;
- the target role or headline says what you intend;
- dates use a consistent style;
- bullets do not wrap awkwardly because of one unnecessary word;
- the most relevant experience appears early;
- page breaks do not strand a heading at the bottom of a page;
- the second page, if present, contains enough useful material to justify it;
- the accent color and density remain professional for the role.
If the page is slightly too long, start with content rather than shrinking everything. Remove a weak or repetitive bullet, tighten a long summary, and combine overlapping skills. A readable two-page resume is better than a one-page document set in tiny type. Density controls are useful for final adjustment, but they should not rescue unfocused writing.
Choose Letter or A4 deliberately
Letter and A4 are close in size but not identical. A resume composed for one can produce a different line wrap or page break when saved as the other.
- Letter is the common choice for applications in the United States and Canada.
- A4 is the standard choice across much of Europe and many other markets.
Set the paper format in the Workplacea design controls before exporting. The secure renderer uses that exact format, so there is no second browser print setting to match and no “Fit to page” step that can unexpectedly rescale the document.
Name the PDF professionally
The recruiter or hiring manager may see the filename in an attachment list before opening it. Use a name that identifies you immediately:
Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf
For a tailored application, adding the role can be helpful:
Firstname-Lastname-Product-Manager-Resume.pdf
Keep the filename short. Avoid names such as resume_final_v7_REAL.pdf, unexplained internal abbreviations, long dates, or the employer's confidential requisition text. Hyphens are easy to read and survive upload forms reliably.
If you export several tailored resumes on Pro or Career Sprint, keep the pattern consistent. For example:
Maya-Petrovic-Resume.pdfMaya-Petrovic-Product-Manager-Resume.pdfMaya-Petrovic-Growth-Lead-Resume.pdf
That small habit makes it much harder to attach the wrong version.
Run the 30-second PDF verification test
After saving, inspect the file once before attaching it to an application:
- Open the PDF in a normal viewer.
- Confirm every page appears and the margins look balanced.
- Select all text with Ctrl+A or Cmd+A and copy it.
- Paste it into a blank text document.
- Check that the name appears first and that experience, education, and skills follow in a sensible order.
- Search the pasted content for a distinctive phrase from the final bullet to confirm the end of the resume was included.
The pasted version does not need to preserve visual styling. It should preserve the words and a logical reading sequence. If the text is absent or badly scrambled, do not send the file yet. Re-export the document and contact support if the same problem persists.
Troubleshooting PDF export
Browser URLs or print headers appear
The secure Workplacea download does not add browser URLs, dates, or browser titles. If those appear, you probably printed the editor page instead of using Export PDF. Return to the editor toolbar and use the export action.
Content is clipped at an edge
Confirm that A4 or Letter is selected correctly in Workplacea, then try a slightly tighter density or remove one weak line near the affected break. The renderer controls margins automatically.
A section breaks awkwardly between pages
Return to the editor and tighten the weakest content first. Shorten a summary, remove a redundant bullet, or switch to a slightly denser setting. You can also compare templates because typography and spacing change where a section lands.
The PDF has an extra blank page
A section ending extremely close to a page boundary is usually responsible. Verify the selected paper format and preview, then remove one weak line or choose a slightly tighter density.
Fonts look different
Workplacea embeds its PDF fonts so Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek text remains selectable and faithful. Other writing systems are blocked before rendering with a clear message rather than producing broken characters; replace unsupported text or contact support before exporting.
The download was interrupted
Return to the editor and select Export PDF again. The exact same resume can be retried for a short recovery window after an interrupted delivery. If you already completed your free clean PDF and need a changed version later, choose Pro or Career Sprint.
A premium template cannot be exported on free
All 12 templates can be previewed, but the free clean PDF uses Standard, Meridian, or Carbon. Select one of those for the included export, or compare Pro and Career Sprint to export premium designs and create unlimited clean PDFs.
Frequently asked questions
Is the first Workplacea PDF really free?
Yes. The free plan includes one complete, clean, watermark-free PDF using Standard, Meridian, or Carbon. It is not a sample file and does not remove sections from your resume.
Is free PDF export unlimited?
No. Free includes the first clean PDF. Pro at $12 per month and Career Sprint at $39 for 90 days include unlimited clean PDF exports. Career Sprint does not auto-renew.
Can I try premium templates before paying?
Yes. Preview all 12 templates with your real content. Premium designs are labeled before export, so you can decide whether the visual difference is worth upgrading for your search.
Does a paid plan improve the AI or score?
No. The editor, checker, scoring details, and AI writing tools are included in the core experience. Paid access expands template export choice and the number of clean PDFs you can create.
Why does Workplacea use a server PDF renderer?
It produces predictable A4 or Letter pages with embedded fonts, selectable text, stable page breaks, and consistent output across browsers. The resume is processed for that request and the generated file is returned directly rather than stored as a guest document.
What should I do if an application portal rejects the PDF?
First verify the portal's size and filename requirements. Rename the file without unusual symbols, confirm it opens normally, and make sure it is not password-protected. If the employer specifies a different file type, follow that employer's instruction for that application.
Export with confidence
Open the resume editor, review the finished page, and select Export PDF. Use Standard, Meridian, or Carbon for the included first clean export, run the copy-and-paste verification once, and send the file only after the content and reading order are correct. If you need repeated exports or a premium design, compare the paid options without losing access to the checker, AI tools, or editor you already used.
